John Chowning is the pioneer in FM synthesis, which he discovered as a musician by ear, the Standford University later licensed it which lead the way to famous synthesis keyboards, e.g. in 1983, Yamaha made their first commercially successful digital FM synthesizer, the DX7.
In this interview, he talks about this discovery, what lead to it and how it was used and the involvement in music as we know it nowadays.
